I am Associate Professor of Economic History at the University of Siena and a CEPR Research Affiliate in Economic History.
I study the determinants of economic development, human capital accumulation, innovation, as well as institutional change, wages, technological progress, and the relationship between severe weather events and human development.
I have been PI and co-applicant for several research projects ranging from the diffusion of early human capital, the impact of conflict on human capital, and the relationship between severe weather events and adult educational attainment.
From 2021 to 2025, I was co-editor in chief at the Industrial History Review.
I am the organiser of the Research Seminars at the Department of Economics and Statistics of the University of Siena.
I serve in the board of the PhD programme in Economics of the Tuscan Universities and in the teaching committee of the BSc degree in Economics & Management at the University of Siena.
